Double futon sofa beds fold along their length and generally our frames open and close from the front which is a lot easier than converting frames from the side or behind, especially when space is at a premium. The 3 seater wooden sofabeds have evolved over the years and become more durable and able to withstand robust use.
The initial stage in choosing a futon frame should be to measure the space where you want to put it. From that "footprint" you can dwell on other features such as wood/metal, arms or not, colour, price etc.
