The latest arrival in our range of mattresses is called the FutoLatex and although it sits at the high end we're sure you'll agree that when more restful sleep and comfort is guaranteed it comes at a little extra cost. The steady rise in popularity for latex bedding products is well documented so we felt latex should be the next direction of futon technology. Latex futons offer many advantages and among other things are resistant to mould, mildew and dust mites and they're hypoallergenic which underlines the healthy nature of latex. Latex is made with tiny air pockets, this makes the mattress "breathe", enabling the mattress to recover its shape and form. Hand finished and made in the UK, this is a mattress which offers fantastic value. The FutoLatex is made using dense cotton-rich fillings, cotton batting and a central core of natural latex foam that provides a comfortable, durable and supportive everyday futon mattress for use on any futon or bed base. In a nutshell this means that the clever design and undeniable utility of the futon has been joined with the superb comfort and health-benefits of latex foam. Indeed, it seems unlikely that a latex futon could do anything other than offer matchless comfort and rest to its owner. Latex Information In the middle of the 19th century a process using sulpher called “vulcanisation” was invented by Charles Goodyear and that opened up the various uses for rubber that we see today. As demand grew the tree was taken to create plantations in other tropical areas such as S.E.Asia, India and Sri Lanka.  Latex is a natural product, non toxic, extremely durable and biodegradable and therefore eco friendly. When air and heat are introduced to the latex sap from the tree it becomes foam like, then when “set” as a sheet material air holes develop and that makes latex breathable.   The ability of latex to breathe means that bad body odours can escape from the mattress. Coupled with latex being naturally bacteriostatic and bactericidal which makes it hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant and ultimately a very safe product for children to sleep on.   The consequences of latex being so durable allow the mattress filling to keep its shape and form even after many years use. The ability of latex to recover its shape quickly from compression helps avoid disturbance to a partner sleeping beside you.
