There is nothing to compare with 100% Egyptian Cotton and that’s why it makes the most perfect mattress sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers.. The quality and sensuality from the cotton is assured and why respected hotels use this kind of bedding.
The term Egyptian Cotton is so called because cotton plants grown in Egypt produces extra long “staples” which in turn makes the finished cotton bedding feel fabulous and favoured by luxury and upmarket brands world-wide. The longer the staples, the better the cotton.
Combing Cotton is regarded as the best process for getting out the shorter staples and leaving the longer ones. If this process is used cotton is then referred to as “combed cotton”. Better quality Egyptian Cottons like 200, 400 and 800 thread count generally use this process. There is nothing like the feel of cotton against skin especially in warmer times of the year.
Here’s a little road map of Thread Count the accepted way of defining quality of cotton and it refers to how many intersecting threads there are in a square inch.
150- 180 TC Any 100% Egyptian Cotton within this range is fine for basic domestic use, and certainly good enough for a spare room and where the use calls for material of a more basic nature.
200 TC Cool and light percale cotton, often used in summer. Regularly used in hotels, this product is ideal for contract or domestic use where the requirement is for cool crisp bed linen within a certain budget.
400 TC Very soft yet more dense, this Egyptian Cotton percale is more popular than the 200 TC, favoured for it’s cool feel and durability or strength,
600 TC This higher TC is highly prized and is made possible by the use of compressed air technology in the weaving process. It has a beautiful feel, is soft and very smooth to the touch..
800 –1000 TC Stunning luxury, above and beyond the 600 TC and with even greater lustre it’s considered a real indulgence. This is an amazingly robust yet silky weave and will always be considered to be a top of the range bed linen even after many years.
